Genres, Genres, Genres
I actually… enjoyed reading this chapter of The Bedford Book of Genres. Learning more about different kinds of genres and how they are implemented in writing has made me feel more in control of my writing. While reading the chapter I became overwhelmed by the amount of choices that I have with Project 1, but as I went on it clearly gave somewhat of a formula to follow in the planning process; the beauty is that this process does not produce cookie-cutter compositions. As a person with a math brain, I need direction and solid answers and this chapter gave that to me while still managing to leave me with enough creative freedom to make the composition my own. The chapter also brought to light the importance of our example piece, “I Once was Miss America,” in writing project 1. Being able to fall back on that piece will be very beneficial as I begin the writing process. Overall, the chapter has opened my eyes to new ways in which I can approach this project. I am now considering using subtitles and pictures (if that's allowed) in my paper to affectively express important ideas and emotions. For me, the best part of this is that I still have key elements that I need to focus on (purpose, audience, style, etc.) that will act as a roadmap as I dive a little deeper in to the world of writing.
